Worthing High School for Girls – More school magazines – WWII Evacuation

After penning the last entry regarding Vaughan Road School magazines, I dug around in my stockroom and have come up with a group of fascinating magazines from the Worthing High School for Girls in West Sussex. It covers the 1935-1943 period, so we have some WWII interest, including one particular incident when during the Battle of Britain part of this school was evacuated to Ollerton, Notts (and I believe earlier in the war Aylwin School from London was evacuated to Worthing!). Imagine the present day upheaval of taking one class on a day trip, then realise what it would be like to uproot a school for a trip of several months. There is some detail in one of the magazine about the evacuation period as well as other.

As before lots of names, events, sports results etc. with these magazines (and two programmes, one for a New Gymnasium Opening Ceremony the other “Fair of 1000yrs” fundraiser) being an altogether more professional production than the Vaughan Road items.

As before these are listed for sale in the Reynard Collectables ebay store.
