I mentioned a few posts ago about visiting the location of the the TV series “Vera” and that one property was on the farm of Emma Gray, a young shepherdess working on this remote farm in Northumberland. Also mentioned was her book being co-written by my wife Barbara Fox. Well, “One Girl and Her Dogs” was published yesterday by the Little, Brown Book Group so if you want a well written, nice story with elements of a new and scary life challenge, some countryside, animals and quirky characters, then pick up a copy at all good bookshops (and on Amazon where it is already near the top of the book charts).
Also look out for Emma in the media over the coming weeks (already big features in the Daily Mail and Newcastle Journal) and she is on Radio 4’s “Saturday Live” at 9am on 28th April. You can even meet Emma (I think with an animal or two in tow) at book signings in Waterstones Hexham at 11am and then Morpeth at 2pm.
So well done Emma (and Barbara, and happy birthday for tomorrow!). And don’t forget Bedpans and Bobby Socks, Barbara’s own book about another huge adventure, this time her mum Gwenda’s, who in 1957 as a young nurse set off for the USA. After one year’s nursing, Gwenda and some new nursing friends embarked on an 18 month road trip around North America and Mexico. Another great read, and you can find out more about both books HERE, as well as be entered into a draw to win a copy of One Girl and Her Dogs.
