Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so the saying goes, and this beholder loves this 1908 Caledonian Railway Company (1830s-1923) fold out tourist map. In lovely warm colours to the main section with also gilt embossed script and an image of the new turbine steamship “Duchess of Argyll”.
Inside the cover is another nice colour image of this ship which it seems was plying its trade on tourist excursions around the Firth of Clyde.
To the back of the main map is a large promotional advert for the 1908 Scottish National Exhibition, Saughton Park, Edinburgh.
A lovely scarce item and one of many older pieces I have from the golden age of exhibitions and Railways. This includes a large number of USA/Canada exhibition items from late 19thC. through to the EXPO events of the late 20thC. In amongst these are lots of paper items with great graphics some of which already listed, but I will set up a separate page for both North American and European exhibitions.
Just to whet the appetite though here are some images of the Caledonian Railway map, which is for sale in Reynard Collectables Delcampe auction shop here.
