I know in these days of wikipedia and the internet it probably is a doddle to find, but often in the past when opening a tin of Heinz baked beans or tomato soup I got to wondering about “just what were the 57 varieties”?
Well now I know, thanks to this lovely promotional guide to the Heinz Exhibit at the 1939 New York World’s Fair. It folds out with superb graphics to both sides and shows both the inside and out of the “Heinz Dome”(not shown in these scans but there seems to be an awful lot of unused space in there?), as well as what you can see and sample in there. Also along the bottom is a list of the “fabled” 57 varieties, with pictures of about 45 of them.
So if this has also troubled you in the past, take a look, or better still buy the item which is available for sale in my ebay shop here!
