Herbert Henry Asquith, 1st Earl of Oxford and Asquith was Liberal Party Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1908-1916 and was the longest continuously serving Prime Minister of the 20thC until 1988.
He was the Prime Minister who took Britain into the First World War, although after a difficult period when perhaps his peacetime achievements were overshadowed, he was replaced by David Lloyd George.
He died in 1928 and is buried alongside his wife in the churchyard at Sutton Courtenay in Oxfordshire. Among his current descendants are the actresses Helena Bonham Carter (his great granddaughter) and Anna Chancellor.
I was lucky enough to aquire the card shown below, a Rotary Photo series postcard, unposted but with the pen signature of Asquith along the bottom margin. I also show a scan from my autograph reference book which verifies the signature.
Definitely a rare autograph and available for sale in my ebay store here.
